ilmessaggero.it/en – Rowing Against Gender Violence: The ‘Hands Off’ Regatta in Rome and Mantua

Locandina Regata Via Le Mani 2024 - Roma - 4 - Compresso

“Hands Off” – that gesture used in rowing to move the oars away from the body, has become, for 12 editions now, a symbolic gesture against violence against women. The solidarity regatta organized by the Italian Rowing Federation together with the Circolo Canottieri Roma, which will also host the race this year, and Hands off Women and the Lazio Regional FIC Committee, will take place on Sunday, October 13 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Among the beautiful activities of the Tevere Day, a Roman event that honors the blonde Tiber with social, cultural, and sports activities throughout the week from October 8 to 13, the open female, male, and mixed regatta will see the participation of 280 participants and as many as 10 rowing clubs, including Circolo Canottieri Roma, Canottieri Aniene, Canottieri Lazio, Ondina Generali, Deportivo Baja; Canottieri Tirrenia Todaro, Canottieri Tevere Remo, Canottieri Tre Ponti, Canottieri Effe, Circolo Tiber Rowing. New this year is the simultaneous race in Rome and Mantua: in addition to the consolidated edition in Rome, organized by the Circolo Canottieri Roma, strongly desired by President Paolo Vitale, and the Lazio Regional FIC Committee, by President Massimo Iaccarini, there is also the edition that, on the same day, October 13, will take place in Mantua with the organization of Canottieri Mincio, President Massimo Guaita, and the Lombardy Regional FIC Committee chaired by Leonardo Binda. Both organizations are coordinated by the Italian Rowing Federation and the Hands off Women Association, chaired by Isabella Rauti, who was the inspiration for the initiative that started in 2012 with the Presidency of Giuseppe Abbagnale. “We are very proud to host the Via Le Mani regatta now in its 12th edition. It is an event we are very attached to and for which we put all our efforts into the water to raise as many funds as possible to be allocated to the National Association Telefono Rosa. The goal of the regatta is to raise public awareness on a very important and current issue such as gender violence. Faced with this unacceptable phenomenon, it is necessary to be united and fight so that there are fewer and fewer episodes of violence against women,” commented Lorenzo Guido, Rowing Advisor of the CCR, a few days before the solidarity race. The event will also be attended by the national women’s team and well-known faces from the world of television, including: Mascarenhas Bruno, Venier Simone, Altobelli Valeria, Calegari Simona, Cannata Loredana, Masala Daniele, Somma Sebastiano, Ciufoli Roberto. For the National Women’s Team, the following athletes will be present: Angelica Merlini, Eleonora Nichifor, Susanna Pedrola, Anna Rossi, Irene Gattiglia, Giorgia Sciattella, Matilde Paoletti, Ilaria Colombo. For the world of television, Livia Bonifazi, Monia Manzo, Janet De Nardis, Emanuela Gentilini, Anna Grossi will participate. The funds collected during the sports event will be entirely donated to the Telefono Rosa Onlus association, which has been fighting for years to uphold the rights of the most vulnerable.
